I just hosted a baby shower actually and have some great ideas on how to make one unique. Twittermoms and Tiny Prints baby shower invitations are asking for us to share 10 tips to planning a unique baby shower. Here are mine:
1. Ask the mother (or father) to be what colors or theme their baby room will be and tailor the shower to this.
2. Host a few games. I went to a shower where they played a Memory game once. We had to match up certain words (such as diapers) and then were given candy that related to the word. For instance, if we matched the word, “Breastfeeding,” we were given a Milky Way. I thought this was so adorable! This is a great way to have a unique baby shower by having unique games.
3. In the shower I hosted, instead of having traditional favors, I had a candy bar. No, not a bar you eat, but different types of candy were offered where people could fill little see-through bags. It made for great decoration as well!
4. Use gifts as centerpieces. I had a diaper cake I was giving to my sister-in-law and we used it as a centerpiece. It was very economical and made for great talk.
5. Use party favors as centerpieces. I have also been to showers where the centerpieces were door prizes essentially.
6. Spell the baby’s name on diapers and hang for decoration. Each cloth diaper would represent a letter of the baby’s name and then hang on a clothes line.
7. Have unique food ideas. We made a baby carriage out of a watermelon and other fruit. It was then filled with other fruit. Again, it made for great conversation and was really cute.
8. I am a fan of using cupcakes in the shape of a diaper or carriage (or baby…whatever it may be) instead of having a standard sheet cake. I believe these are very cute.
9. Have each guest bring a pack of diapers. This can be included with another gift or just have a diaper party. You can never go wrong with diapers and it is something every parent would be so happy to have in the future.
10. Have a clothing party where each guest brings an item of baby clothing and then they are all displayed using bobby pins on a clothing line. It’s very festive and decorative!
Whatever your unique tip may be, I’d love to hear it. I love to plan parties and think it’s great to always get new ideas!!
