I’ve started giving myself 10 minute challenges. I set my timer for 10 minutes and tackle a household chore while my children are having a snack or lunch. It’s amazing how much you can accomplish in only 10 minutes when you focus on the task. The 10 minute challenge is a new feature here on Mommies with Cents. Each week, I will show you one of the things I was able to accomplish in 10 minutes. I encourage you to join me- it really easy amazing what you are able to achieve, even if it’s incremental, if you set your mind (and timer!) to it!
This week my challenge was one of my kitchen cupboards. I have very limited cupboard space so having a cluttered cupboard can eat up a lot of much needed space. This particular cupboard is where I keep my cookbooks and baking ingredients. Over the past two years a lot of junk has gotten shoved in with my cookbooks including loose recipes, takeout menus and pizza coupons. Here is what it looked like before I started:
With two minutes to spare, this is what it looked like:
I found lots of goodies in there that made me want to bake. I’m thinking banana chocolate chip muffins with walnuts this afternoon! With my two spare minutes, I straightened up our phone charging station on the kitchen counter- all while my kiddos enjoyed their morning snack.
I’d love to hear ways you manage your time at home with kids. I know I have a lot to learn and it will only get more challenging when my third arrives! Please share your tips with me and our other readers by leaving a comment, then come back next week for another 10 minute challenge!

Okay this was the best inspiration I have had. I have been “spring” cleaning my house yesterday and today, and was getting so scattered, I would start one place and then get side tracked as i went to put something in it’s rightful place. I saw your post at noon and started setting my timer. I can say I have gotten so much done. Sometime I have to extendd it a little for a certain task, but I started with my closet, got it and husbands done, cleaned out make up drawer and other bathroom cabinets, and cleaned bathroom and bedroom. In 2 hours. So THANKS!!

Hi Lisa,
Congrats on all you’ve accomplished! Sometimes it’s the little things that inspire us and help us keep going. A little motivation never hurts and I’m always surprised by how much I can actually accomplish in 10 minutes.

Great post!
sidenote: I would SO love to be able to read your posts in my email inbox. I have limited downloads for my internet service, so I can’t always read all the posts, even though I would love to follow all the info.
