This is really gross but if it saves a mommy from shock and worry then I feel it’s my job to share. My 4 month old daughter started solids a few weeks ago and after a few days of cereal I decided to mash up a little bit of banana and feed it to her. I only gave it to her once and I didn’t think that she actually ingested much as she’s still learning and most of what goes in her mouth dribbles right back out. A few days went by and I went to change her diaper. When I opened it up I was shocked to see what looked like little black worms in her BM. I called the doctor who told me she highly doubted my daughter had worms unless she was around a lot of animals or playing in the dirt. Since I had been gardening the past few days, I wasn’t as convinced. I thought somehow maybe I had given her some icky germ or something. I did what anyone would do- I googled it! (Well, I actually swagbucksed it) Turns out bananas can produce bowel movements in babies that look alarmingly like worms but are really just fibers from the banana. Boy was I relieved!

Yep, happens to my daughter too. Looks really funny.
I know this is gross, but when my son was younger-about 2 yrs. old- he ate a rasin muffin, but didn’t chew the rasins. They plumped up inside him and when he had a BM, I thought they were bugs! They looked like very tiny grapes. 3 years later and he hasn’t had rasins since!
That is so funny! I’ve never noticed with my little ones, but I would probably think there was something wrong too.
Thank you that is very good to know. My 4 month old will be starting solids soon and my hubby loves bananas so I’m sure they would be high on his list of stuff for her.
OH.thank.goodness. it was not something serious!
Been there. Seen that.
Oh hunny! I think it is hilarious that you posted this. I also planned on posting about this on my blog. This exact thing happened to me last week and boy did I go to swagbucksing too. I was almost positive it HAD to be the bananas, so I searched “banana baby poop” and it popped up. It seems like people tell you this, that, and the other, why didn’t they mention this also?
Whitney-my first thought was bananas too but it had been several days since I’d fed them to her and it was a tiny little piece and didn’t think she’d swallowed much of it. There were a lot of “worms” for such a small amount of banana. What would we do without Swagbucks??:)
