Ready, Set, Grover Game Review & Giveaway

Video games aren’t just for older kids.  As demonstrated by Ready, Set, Grover, gaming can be a great learning tool for preschoolers.  Available in Nintendo DS and Wii formats, Ready, Set, Grover! teaches children important life lessons such as good nutrition, personal hygiene, physical activity and the importance of rest and relaxation with fun mini-games.  The oversized stylus included with the DS version adds a tactile element to the game that increases dexterity.  The Wii version offers drop-in co-play for parents to assist their child when they need help.  Ready, Set, Grover includes a series of different mini-games such as “Grover Says”, an obstacle course, rowing a boat and more.  Sesame Street favorites, Grover, Elmo and Abby Cadabby encourage healthy habits to last a lifetime all throughout the game. I love the ideas behind this game. I wish I had stuck to similar games for my 4 year old when we got him a Nintendo DS for his birthday. Alas, he has discovered Star Wars Legos which he borrowed for his cousin. While he did play Ready, Set, Grover for a little while, it’s never his first choice. The speed of the game is a little slow and may be more suited to a three year old or child who hasn’t been introduced to gaming. All of that being said, I think the game is pretty neat, especially the parent features where you can check the progress of your child. Since this game is educational, I’ll be offering it as an option for quiet time (rather than other DS games) to encourage learning rather than mindless game play. The large stylus is great for working on proper form as it’s easily held like a pen or pencil. The downfall is that it doesn’t store inside the DS like other stylus pens so it’s easily misplaced. While there are drawbacks to this game, overall it’s a fun and educational game that I’d recommend to others.
