Felicity Flu Visits the Zoo by E.S. Redmond ($10.87 on Amazon) is a children’s book about a little girl with a runny nose who spreads the icky goo throughout the zoo. The author was inspired to write this story after a trip to a petting zoo with her children where she noticed a bunch of toddling tots with runny noses surrounding the animals. The sheep looked like giant tissues and it struck her as ironic that the hand sanitzer was mounted on the fence near the exit rather than the entrance. No protection for those poor sheep from little germ infested hands!
In Felicity Floo Visits the Zoo, the zoo keeper is baffled as to why all of the animals are sick and acting funny. The story of Felicity Floo and her runny nose ensues. It’s rhyming wording and gross antics made my son giggle. It also gave us the opportunity to talk about germs and the importance of hand washing. The illustrations are quirky and cute and some of Felicity’s slimy hand prints even have a slick sheen to them to add to the effect.
Gross out your kids (if that’s possible) and teach them a thing or two about the control of spreading germs with this fun book.
