Review & Giveaway: Skincare Sets

The kit I was given to review contained Renewing Cleanser, Revitalizing Toner, Repairing Lotion and Refining Mask.

Proactiv’s 3-step acne system was designed to eliminate clogged pores and kill acne bacteria. For best results, it is recommended to use the 3-step clear skin regimen every morning and evening.

I liked that it was a simple routine- cleanse, tone and “repair” for daily use and a mask as needed (2-3 times per week to help absorb oil). Both the cleanser and Repair Lotion contain benzoyl peroxide which is known for it’s acne fighting abilities. It is also known to bleach clothing, towels etc. Using white towels is recommended.

The cleanser worked okay for removing dirt and oil but I don’t believe that the benzoyl peroxide does anything for the cleanser since it is basically just washed down the drain. Benzoyl peroxide is best used as a leave on treatment such as the Reparing Lotion that comes with this kit. Don’t be fooled by the name though. While the Repairing Lotion does help to dry up acne, it won’t actually “repair” your skin. The word “lotion” suggests that it is moisturizing but the benzoyl peroxide in it actually has the opposite effect. Using a daily moisturizer with SPF should help. Proactiv makes one of their own but it was not included in the kit I received for review.  It is included in several of the Proactive kits or can be purchased separately.

Overall, this is a decent kit that will help clear up and prevent acne.

Heidi Klum’s In An Instant
I was shockingly surprised with the results of In an Instant. I had low expectations going in thinking it was some sort of trendy kit that held empty promises. I was wrong. I got good results using the In an Instant line which includes Instant Warming Scrub, Gentle Foaming Cleanser, Intensive Firming Serum, Instant Daily Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15, Instant Wrinkle Smoother and Intensive Eye Treatment. My skin so smooth and seemingly firmer while using these products. I’ll admit, in the beginning, I wasn’t sure whether to love it or hate it. I didn’t care for the way the products smelled as I prefer fragrance-free products for my face and I was sure that using all of these products at once would be too much. I was pleasantly surprised and am happy to say that I would recommend this kit to those who can afford it.

Meaningful Beauty by Cindy Crawford
The Meaningful Beauty skin care line includes a day moisturizer, a night treatment, a gentle cleanser, a great-smelling, pore-refining toner, a deep cleaning facial masque, a depuffing, brightening eye treatment, a neck and décolleté treatment and a glowing serum. Meaningful Beauty can be used everyday and comes beautifully packaged.

My biggest excitement from this line is that the moisturizers are not greasy and make my skin feel really soft and silky afterwards. One of the downsides is that the day moisturizer is only SPF 8 and SPF is the minimum recommendation, so it would be nice if that were higher. Be careful with the product around the eyes as it can irritate them, so definitely shy away.

Natural Advantage
This is an anti-aging skin care line that that uses pure Retinol and Alpha Hydroxy Acids to reverse the signs of aging and give skin a renewed glow. Natural Advantage has been shown in an independent study to improve skin in just two weeks. The line includes a gentle daily cleansing gel that can be rinsed or wiped off, an all day moisturizer with AHAs and SPF, a nighttime renewal complex with Retinol and a firming and lifting neck treatment.

Natural Advantage is nice because it made my face smoother and evened out some discoloration I had. The face wash and moisturizer are what I have used mainly in order to avoid redness and peeling. I do not have too many wrinkles yet, so hopefully these help me keep a younger appearance.
