It’s not even officially spring yet but all I can think about is summer. I’m getting fliers in the mail and handouts from school about summer programs and to be honest, it’s overwhelming me a little bit. I don’t want to schedule summer camps and have them conflict with any of our other plans for the summer but at the same time, those haven’t yet been solidified. What I do know though, is that I don’t want my kids to be bored. I want them to be active and to stay alert rather than have their brains turn to mush with too much television. Last year I had some work books for my son which were great. This year, all three of my kiddos will have work books from School Zone that will help keep them up to speed academically. I love the workbooks because they are fun for the kids and I can choose ones that are age appropriate and specific to what I’d like them to work on.
My girls will be using the “Get Ready for Kindergarten” and “Get Ready for Preschool” books while my 6 year old will be working on some math and reading books to help keep him sharp over the summer. The books are brightly colored with kid-friendly pictures and problems that make it fun to practice old skills and learn new ones. My kids will have some quiet time each day to “work” while I work.
My girls have already tried their books out. Both keep asking to do more. They’ll never last until summer! I’m going to have to buy more of them. Luckily, there’s a great selection to choose from. There are also flash card sets that would be fun for quizzing. Be sure to check out the two new workbook series Try-N-Spy and Little Thinkers that have recently been introduced to the line.
