I could probably burn water but a meal from Schwan’s is pretty hard to mess up. I have to say, one of my favorite perks of blogging is reviewing food from Schwan’s. It’s so simple to prepare and tastes like your mom made it (if she’s a good cook like mine)I’ve enjoyed every single thing I’ve ever tasted from Schwan’s including pot roast which I don’t normally care for. This time around we had the opportunity to review one of our family’s favorite meals — Ham Dinner:
Sliced Ham — his premium, naturally smoked, pre-sliced boneless pit ham has great old-fashioned rich taste and meaty texture. This makes a wonderful family supper entrée or perfect for a buffet, it serves plenty! Try it covered in pineapple slices and pan-fried with a side of French toast for a sweet and savory breakfast; or enjoy it piled high in a deli sandwich. Fully cooked and ready to serve with no slicing required.
Potatoes Au Gratin — Thick slices of real potatoes are smothered in a rich sauce made with real cream and loaded with cheddar cheese. A light layer of bread crumbs tops off this convenient side dish. Plus the large family size makes this the perfect addition to your holiday gatherings.
Triple Berry Pie — This fruit pie is as amazing as its name implies. Loaded with apples, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and rhubarb in a flaky, tender pie crust. Drizzle with the sweet vanilla sauce provided with each pie.
Ice Cream — Schwan’s has some of the best ice cream around. This time we got vanilla to go with the pie but I’m still begging Schwan’s to bring back the Monkeying Around Banana Ice Cream — it is to die for!
At first I was a little skeptical of frozen ham but once it was thawed out and cooked it was tender, juicy and fabulous! We had it for dinner for two night and had quite a bit left for sandwiches and to add to scrambled eggs the rest of the week. The Potatoes Au Gratin on the other hand, were a completely different story. The tray is supposed to serve 12 but the 5 of us polished it off in one sitting. I told you this was one of our favorite meals! Even the frozen peas were good (the bag was HUGE — we are still eating them!) Then we moved onto pie….and it was divine! I had never even heard of this combination before (apples, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and rhubarb) but it was just the right amount of sweet and tart, especially when served with the vanilla ice cream. The pie came with a vanilla sauce but since we had the ice cream we didn’t use it. The pie was really big, perfect for a family gathering or get-together with friends and sure to impress.
