Last summer on our family camping trip my brother-in-law sent the kids on a Snipe hunt. It was so funny watching them trying to find this mysterious bird in the dark while he hid in trees and made Snipe noises. He really had them going! According to Wikipedia, a Snipe Hunt is a practical joke where inexperienced campers are told about a bird or animal called the snipe as well as a usually preposterous method of catching it, such as running around the woods carrying a bag or making strange noises such as banging rocks together. The Game Snipe Hunt by Education Outdoors is based upon this definition. Played indoors or outdoors, the Snipe Hunt camping game can be played with two people or two teams. The game comes with 2 snipes and a snipe nest. The object of the game is to be the first person or team to find the other person or team’s hidden snipe and return it to it’s nest. If the snipes aren’t discovered within a certain period of time they start chirping and their eyes light up to give you a hint on their location. Designed for ages 5 and up, Snipe Hunt retails for around $25.

This is such a cool game because while it’s awesome for the outdoors, it can also be played inside if the weather is bad. I can’t wait to play this with the kids when we move to our new house with a huge yard!
The snipe hunt was one of the highlights of the Sand Lake Trip last summer! I am looking forward to the year that Damien goes on his first snipe hunt with his cousins 🙂
