One of my favorite resources is a book called “Don’t Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me” by Paula Begoun. In it, make up guru, Paula Begoun reviews makeup products according to the ingredient list, what the products claims are, and price/value. Many times your favorite high end makeup counter items can be found under a different name at drugstores for a much lower price. Why pay $50 for a facial cream when you can find the exact same (or VERY similar) product at a much lower price? There is a companion book for hair-care products called “Don’t Go Shopping for Hair-Care Products Without Me.” If you are interested in any of these books, I recommend checking them out at your local library first. Then if you decide you would like to have one at home for reference, check Craigslist or Ebay– Mommies With Cents never pay full price! 🙂 In addition to the product reviews in“Don’t Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me”, Paula suggests cost efficient homemade products such as using baking soda as a gentle facial exfoliant. In the coming days I will share some of my favorite tips and most recommended products from the books.
Great book – I had heard about it but didn’t know the title! I look forward to reading some money-saving tips that you learn from it on your blog. It’s nice to get things like this bit by bit.
