Written with a twinkle of Judy Blume and a dash of your hometown best friend, Mommies With Cents is happy to introduce Style expert and Bra Extraordinariness – Jené Luciani and her fabulous guide The Bra Book: The Fashion Formula to Finding the Perfect Bra. Lopsided breasts, barely their boobies, and super curvaceous F’s that would battle the likes of Pamela Anderson – no problem! Puberty, pregnancy, weight gain, weight loss, menopause and more – from Bra A-Z’s and everything surrounding our “personal” issues, Jené gives a first hand, expert approach on everything that every woman has been battling for years!
For the most part, a bra is THE ONE thing a woman never leaves the house without. Yet, statistics show a crazy-high number – 85% – of women are wearing the wrong bra.
Author Jené Luciani writes “There are so many reasons we all care so much about bras. A good one makes us feel good inside and out. It supports us, even protects us, concealing our flaws and highlighting our strengths. The right one can make us feel confident and sexy – like a woman should!
The bra’s ability to change the way we see our breasts, and how that can make us feel, is more important than it sounds. Women in society are often identified – and even judged – by their breasts – my ‘mutant boobs,’ as I called them – became such a big part of my identity that I didn’t even know who I was anymore.”
In high school Jené realized that there was something “wrong” with her body; “When my breasts had finally developed, I noticed they were unusual. My chest appeared almost concave on one side – my left breast was much smaller than the right – and while the right one was round, the left one was more cone-shaped.”
Almost done with college, it occurred to Jené that her breasts were taking over her life and confided, for the first time, to her parents how she was feeling. With their support and encouragement, Jené decided it best to have plastic surgery. At first she was very happy with the results – to the point that she “finally felt normal”, but years later she came to the conclusion that, “once again my own breasts were different and didn’t look right anymore. It was hard to ignore. My left breast (which was the smaller one originally) once again took on a cone-like shape and became distorted, so it looked as if I had one breast on top of the other. My right breast sagged terribly.”
After seeking medical attention for dull stabbing pain that began to develop in her left breast, Jené learned that she has Tubular Breast Syndrome, which is a condition or defect that causes one or both breasts to develop with a tube-like shape. Tests performed also showed how she was suffering from a common complication from the implant in her left breast, which was what had likely caused the dull stabbing pain, as well as the breast hardening and distortion.
With her parents and husband’s support she went ahead and had her breast implants replaced with new ones and feels that though she may have to have the procedure done again in ten years, she is happy with how she looks and feels, inside and out, and optimistic with her future.
Jené’s goal with The Bra Book: The Fashion Formula to Finding the Perfect Bra is to educate and empower you, and until now, there hasn’t been a place where all the information we need was accurately and succinctly pulled together, so that we finally can understand the bra. It takes away the mystery by showing you not only how your bra works, but how to make it work for you.
