Since I took my oldest daughter to Beauty and the Beast, it was my son’s turn for a Mommy date. We went to the opening night showing of How The Grinch Stole Christmas! I was super excited because I knew he’d love it. Plus, I can’t turn down any show at the Paramount. I think it’s my favorite building ever. I could stare at the walls and ceilings for hours.
Yes, that’s a Christmas tree hanging upside down from the ceiling. Isn’t it pretty? Ok, so back to the show. As expected, it was really fun. I’ve got “Who loves Christmas? WHO’S LOVE CHRISTMAS!” Stuck in my head. The costumes were fun and Seuss-like. The Grinch’s fingers exactly as I pictured they’d be. The show follows the book sticking to the original story. The only time it strays, it actually enhances the experience — with humor and audience interaction. At one point, we got to sing along “He’s a mean one, Mr. Grinch!”
This show was short enough that it didn’t require an intermission. It started at 7:30 and we were home just before 10 pm and we live about an hour away. On a school night, I appreciated that! Jackson did get a little restless towards the end of the show but only because he was tired. We had a few late nights over the holiday weekend that my kids are still recovering from and adjusting back to school schedules.
If you can get seats within the first 10 or so rows you’ll get treated with a short snow fall during the show and a surprise at the end. This was such a fun date night with my big guy — something that wasn’t sports related that we could both enjoy! If you are able to make it to one of the showings, it’ll really put you in the holiday spirit!
