I have hazel eyes (green and brown), but my husband has blue. We always wondered what color of eyes our children would have because of this. It turned out my daughter and my last son have blue eyes while my 2nd child has hazel eyes. Marianne Richmond wrote a beautiful book, Beautiful Blue Eyes, telling children how special children are having blue eyes.
“I watched, and I waited
as your eyes chose their hue,
deciding in time
on their beautiful blue.
Blue as a butterfly
or the sparkling sea.
Blue as the bluebird
who sings in her tree.”
My daughter is still a little young to understand the true meaning of this book, but it’s great that she understands she’s special (although all of my children know this). I remember the anticipation of finding out what color my children’s eyes would be. All of them started out blue and around 1 year is when my son’s changed to grey and then to hazel.
Beautiful Blue Eyes would make a great gift for any child or new/expecting parent. It has such a great message.
