We had three kids pretty much back to back. There’s 19 months between the first two and 21 months between the middle one and the last. It kept us pretty busy in the early days so we waited awhile to start traveling. Their first plane ride for a vacation didn’t happen until the youngest was about two and half. Since then we’ve traveled somewhere new almost every year and have had so much fun exploring different parts of the United States.
The Elsewhere Scratch Off Map offers an interactive way to teach kids about travel, learn about where they have been, and set their sights on places they might like to go in the future. This kid-friendly map is a great way to learn about all 50 states and some of the most famous landmarks and travel destinations in the country. It comes with 32 educational learning cards, map travel stickers and a dry erase marker as well as a metal guitar pick for scratching off the silver overlay of the places that have already been visited. A small cleaning cloth (included) will help clean away the scratch off mess and keep the map looking neat. A small storage bag holds all of the maps accessories.
The map is coated with a tough plastic to keep it safe from tears and rips. It comes in a really nice storage tube for safe-keeping until it’s ready for framing or hanging on the wall. A vibrant USA Map lies beneath a silver foil overlay and it’s colors revealed as each state that is visited is scratched off. Reveal and Discover States, Flags, Landmarks and Parks as you explore the country. The surface of the map can be written on with the dry erase marker to include notes or map your next vacation.
I love that this map is interactive and encourages exploration. It ignites interest in places that might otherwise be overlooked. We’ve visited many of the typical vacation spots in the US so this map will help us decide on future travels so we can learn more about our great nation.
