After our move from Washington state to Arizona, things are finally starting to settle down a bit. All three of my kids are back in school this week for the first time since last March. Last month was so busy we took the month off from Gramma in a Box but my girls really missed it! We got the October box and they were so happy to get back to it!
All Gramma in a Box cookie and candy crafts are themed. This month is Halloween themed of course! Each box is only $22 which is really an exceptional value when you consider the cost of buying all the supplies in full sizes and the time it would take to track them down! Everything you need comes neatly arranged inside of a red box and delivered right to your door!
The first project from the October box was Spooky Witches Hats. These are made by spreading melting chocolate to the top of a gingersnap cookie and adding a Hershey Kiss and sprinkles. Not only are these adorable but the combination of a spicy gingersnap cookie and chocolate tastes amazing! “Gramma” gives clearly written instructions with photos for every project and even offers extra tips! Make sure to save half of the melting chocolate from the first project because you’ll need it for the second project.
The second project was Crispy Halloween Bites. This project uses the leftover melting chocolate mixed with Cocoa Krispies. Next, press the skull and bones candies into them and add a few sprinkles. My girls thought they’d be even cooler with white frosting “spider webs” so they used some frosting from the cookie decorating kit to make this happen. There’s always plenty of supplies and room to add their own creative touches to the projects which I love.
The third project is always cookie decorating and one of my family’s favorites. They look forward to seeing what three colors of frosting will be included and what shape cookies they’ll get to decorate. We’ve been doing Grandma in a Box for well over a year and I didn’t know until recently that Gramma herself actually makes the cookies for each kit herself! Amazing! You always get several different shapes of cookies, 3 colors of frosting and a variety of sprinkles, candies and/or colored sugar to decorate them! Gramma Terry posts little videos to her social media accounts and demonstrates different decorating techniques that my kids love to try. This project allows them to experiment and use their creativity. There is never a shortage of frosting or decorations — more than enough for the project. In fact my kids often save some of them to use later!
This month they got purple, orange and white frosting with pumpkin, ghosts, bats and witch’s hat cookies and a varieties of sprinkles and colored sugar.
My girls don’t always get along but they always look forward to doing Gramma in a Box cookie decorating and candy crafts together. They work together on the projects and take pride in sharing the resulting treats with the rest of the family. They never get tired of it!
