It’s almost spring and when the sun comes out all I can see are the dust and cobwebs that have accumulated over the dark winter months! It’s definitely time for spring cleaning! According to Meriam-Webster, spring cleaning is listed in the dictionary as “the act or process of doing a thorough cleaning of a place.” I like to go through each room in the house and clean it from top to bottom. It feels so good once it’s done but it can be a big project. An independent survey of respondents that consisted of 1,000 men and women who have primary cleaning
responsibility in their home revealed the following:
When asked how long it takes them to Spring Clean:
- 32% said a weekend
- 28% said over the course of a day
- 23% said a couple of hours
- 15% said over the course of spring
- 2% said a few minutes

The same group of respondents were asked which were the Top Spring Cleaning Chores they perform.

2. Windows
3. Changing out clothes
4. Exterior of house
5. Purge (dispose of) clothing and/or toys
6. Cleaning fixtures
7. Organizing garage
8. Sweep garage

10. Kitchen appliances

For me, decluttering and deep cleaning are my priorities. I probably takes me about a month. I try to clean things that often get neglected like ceiling fans, baseboards and windows including the tracks and sills. Here are some great spring cleaning tips from the Libman Company, the manufacturer of a wide variety of cleaning products:
1. Use your Libman broom to sweep your carpet before vacuuming. The broom fibers will dig down into the carpet, moving dirt to the surface for an even deeper clean.
2. To clean your shower surrounds without getting your hands wet, dip a Libman mop into a solution of 1/2 cup of vinegar, 1 cup of clear ammonia, and 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 gallon of warm water. After cleaning, rinse with warm water.
3. Use a vent brush to clean out the track of your sliding glass door.
4. Use your favorite Libman mop to clean your baseboards. Just dip the mop in a water and white vinegar solution and wipe down baseboards without bending over.
5. Keep up with after-school projects. Use a lint roller to clean up glitter, bits of paper, and other craft-related messes.
6. To help collect more dust and pet hair, spray liquid fabric softener and warm water on the Libman® Precision Angle® Broom before sweeping.
7. Clean car tires! A Libman brass brush cleans car tires just as well as pots. The contour of the handle will save your knuckles and clean quicker than a sponge.
8. Clean out wading pools and play equipment with a Libman mop and a solution of 1/4 cup hand dishwashing soap and 1-gallon of water. Rinse off, and let the fun begin.
9. To prevent dust from settling on the surface of glass-topped tables, TV screens, or stereo lids, mix a little fabric softener with warm water. Wipe mixture on the surface, then rub dry with a soft Libman microfiber cloth.
10. Use an 18” Libman Multi-Surface Push Broom as a large scrub brush to scrub both high and low areas of aluminum or vinyl siding.
11. Here’s a quick tip of my own for getting out stubborn toilet stains.

I was brushing my daughter’s hair the other day when she pointed out how dirty the fan in our bathroom was. Yikes! It was really dirty and I never noticed until she mentioned it!
It looks me literally 30 seconds tops to clean it with the Libman vent brush, one of my new favorite cleaning tools! I can’t believe how easy it was and how much dust/dirt/lint came out of it!
Especially when I’m deep cleaning, I like to use gloves to protect my hands. Sometimes I even use the cleaning time as a beauty treatment by applying a thick moisturizing lotion before putting on my gloves. I love durable Libman’s All-Purpost Reusable Latex Gloves are. The disposable gloves are great too, especially for really messy or quick jobs.
Sponges are a must-have for me in the kitchen. I like the new-to-me antibacterial ones and the square ones that hang to dry on a suction cup hanger you can put on the side of your sink basin. All of these have great scrubbing power!
Microfiber cloths are a must-have for all over the home. The Sponge Cloths are especially great! I like having different colors so I can designate them to the bathroom or kitchen. These don’t leave lint or streaks behind.
Is it time to replace your broom or dust pan? That’s not something I really thought about but it can make a big difference! Even my 9 year old daughter noticed when we got new ones. The dust pans actually work! Everything sweeps right up into the pan because the rubber edge fits tight and flush to the floor. I like the large, deep dust pan and push broom for the garage. It works great!
Having new cleaning tools motivates me to clean. If you could use a little inspiration yourself, be sure to visit www.libman.com.
