When we bought our house about two years ago all the walls were freshly painted white — a blank canvas that frankly was a little overwhelming. I’m not very good at decorating and big tasks really stress me out. I’ve taken things in baby steps. First I spruced up our living room by painting and decorating our fireplace mantle. Then, I gave my son’s bedroom a makeover on a budget. One of my biggest projects was adding a mudroom area to our garage. I also painted one of my daughter’s rooms and made her some curtains but that’s all I’ve done in over two years! It was time for a new project!
I had been contemplating a beach theme for our main bathroom for some time but hadn’t worked up the motivation for a full makeover. The countertop has a “beachy” look to me and since I had finally decided that the framed photograph of my kids playing on the beach from Instantly Framed was bathroom appropriate, they both acted as inspiration.
What I had in there wasn’t horrible but it was a bit boring and I was itching for something different. Kohl’s is always my go-to for stuff for the house. I love browsing through the store but I’m much more efficient when I shop online so that’s what I did — it also helped me stick to my self-imposed $100 budget.
First though, I wanted to paint. I was thinking some sort of sand color would be nice. I went to Home Depot and checked out their bargain paint (mixed cans that people decided not to purchase) and found a suitable color for only $9 for a gallon. It was low odor paint with primer so I feel like a scored an awesome deal. It wasn’t exactly the color I would have picked but it was close enough! I used essential oil in my paint and that was a fun experience!
After I was done painting, the rest was a breeze! I got this awesome brushstrokes herringbone fabric shower curtain that I LOVE (currently $19.99) and some super adorable Oceanside Shell Shower Curtain Hooks (not currently available, normally $24.99).
See? Super adorable, right? And guess what? There was a MATCHING Oceanside Shell Soap Pump that I just couldn’t resist (currently $14.99)!
I also bought a couple of sand colored hand towels with gold starfish embroidered on them (currently $8.99). We don’t use the bathtub/shower in this bathroom and never have overnight guests so we didn’t need any full sized towels which helped save on the budget and allowed me to splurge a little on these.
With the paint and all of these items I came in right at $100 and also earned $10 Kohl’s Cash! Since my budget was spent, I decided to make some wall art with supplies I already had on hand. You can check out my tutorial for Baking Soda Dough Art to see how I made these fun starfish to complete my bathroom makeover on a budget.
I think it came out pretty well! What do you think? Considering a makeover of your own? Be sure to visit Kohls.com and have a look around! They’ve got a great selection of household items at great prices. Be sure to snoop around for a coupon because you can usually find one for at least 15% off! Also, it pays to shop during Kohl’s Cash periods because you’ll get $10 Kohl’s Cash for every $50 you spend! Plus, if you sign up for Yes2You Rewards you’ll earn points towards more free credit to spend at Kohl’s!
**Kohl’s provided me with a $100 gift card to shop for this project.
Super cute, thanks for the ideas! 🙂 Pinned it.

Love the sea shells and sand dollars on the shower curtain. Very classy.
