Sadly, most, if not all, 2020 grads will go without a traditional ceremony thanks to the pandemic. Even though the future is laden with uncertainty, celebrating this life achievement is essential! Looking forward to a hopeful future even if it is somewhat stalled will help graduates stay positive. I recently discovered a super cool graduation gift that will come in handy for dorm life but can also be used immediately until that prized day arrives. It’s called a BunkTrunk.
Dorm rooms are very limited on storage space. They also lack security. One dad solved these problems for his daughter when he created a lockable storage box that can be installed at the foot of a dorm bed. It comes pre-assembled and is easy to install — no tools required! You can order ahead and have it shipped to your dorm for arrival on move-in day. This is recommended so as not to imply distrust of your bunk mate by installing down the road.
BunkTrunk is made with natural Birch wood. It offers secure storage and doubles as a nightstand and study desk all in one. I don’t have college age kids but I do have a tween daughter doing distance learning at home. She has a very small room so must maximize the space. She’s also at that age that she wants some privacy from her siblings so she loves the locking feature on the BunkTrunk!
BunkTrunk was incredibly easy to set up and install. They even have a quick video to watch if you need visual help. All you have to do is insert the legs into the BunkTrunk Box then secure the “bunkenstock” stabilizing feet with the included zip ties. Slide the shelf into place, install batteries into the digital keypad lock and set your code. That’s it! Then it’s ready to slide into place at the foot of your bed. It can also be used under the bed without the feet if that works better for you. We like the installation at the foot of the bed so that McKinley can use it as a mini desk. She likes watching her Netflix shows on her laptop on the fold down door that functions as a little desk. It’s perfect for her!
There is a small hole at the back of the BunkTrunk so that cords can be threaded through to charge your devices even while they are locked inside. The cost of a BunkTrunk ($219-$299 including shipping!) is less than the cost of most insurance deductibles so it’s a great way to protect your valuables, offering you security, peace of mind and additional storage without taking up extra space!
You can find out more about BunkTrunk at www.bunktrunk.com. It makes an excellent graduation gift! It would also be perfect for a tiny home or any room with limited space.

Traveling writing desks like this or similar were popular with officers during the Civil War because they were needed and easily transported .
